Grade 4

Welcome to Grade 4!
Grade 4 is a year of growing independence, deeper thinking, and meaningful learning. Students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies while learning to communicate clearly, collaborate with others, solve problems, and think critically. Throughout the year, students are encouraged to ask questions, make connections, support their thinking with evidence, and take ownership of their learning.

English Language Arts: Wit & Wisdom
Through the Wit & Wisdom curriculum, students build reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills through engaging, knowledge-rich modules. Students explore a variety of topics and texts while learning to analyze information, summarize and paraphrase, use evidence to support their thinking, and communicate their ideas clearly through speaking and writing. Our Modules include: A Great Heart, Extreme Settings, The Redcoats Are Coming!, and Myth Making.

Mathematics: Illustrative Mathematics
Through the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, students develop a deeper understanding of mathematics through problem solving, discussion, reasoning, and exploration. Students work with multi-digit multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry, and data while developing strategies and explaining their mathematical thinking.

Science and Social Studies
In Science, students explore weathering and erosion and investigate how these natural processes shape Earth's surface. Students also explore biomimicry and discover how scientists and engineers look to nature for ideas when designing solutions to real-world problems. In Social Studies, students study the regions of the United States, exploring the geography, resources, people, history, and unique characteristics that make each region special.

Together, these experiences help Grade 4 students become confident, curious, and independent learners who are prepared to take on new challenges and continue their growth throughout elementary school and beyond.
